Overview
In addition to our proprietary patent-pending Intelligent Closed-Loop™ Protection architecture, Fort Knox accounts have a variety of different security measures you can set up in-app to further enhance your security.
Required Security Measures
These options will be configured as part of the standard onboarding process, and make up the minimum security required to enroll in and use Fort Knox.

CLEAR® Selfie and Government ID Verification
CLEAR® mobile authentication is used during initial onboarding, and used to confirm your identity before performing various account functions, such as initiating funds transfers and changing information.
This measure requires that you take a selfie and upload a photo of a government-issued ID. This allows us to verify your identity by matching your selfie to your ID. As one of the highest-security measures available, this ensures you are who you say you are, and only you can access your account.
If enrolling with CLEAR® for the first time, you will need to scan a government-issued ID and take a selfie. For following CLEAR® verifications, you only need to take a selfie.
Biometric Authentication
Fort Knox uses passkeys, a modern and secure way to access your account using your device’s built-in FaceID, fingerprint, or other biometric technology.
Instead of relying on passwords, which can be guessed or stolen, passkeys use a secure digital key stored on your device. When you sign in or take sensitive actions, your device prompts you to confirm your identity using a biometric scan (like FaceID or a fingerprint), making your account much harder to compromise.
Fort Knox does not use passwords. To enroll in and use Fort Knox savings accounts, biometric authentication (FaceID, fingerprint) must be enabled on your device.
One Time Passcodes (OTP)
OTPs are sent to the email address and phone number you enroll with to confirm your contact information during onboarding.
If you access your Fort Knox account on a new device, such as if/when you change phones, OTPs will be used for the first login on your new device.
CLEAR® will send you a text with an OTP when initiating mobile authentication. This will occur during onboarding, and any time CLEAR® authentication is required, such as when initiating a transfer.
Additional Security Measures
Fort Knox has some of the most sophisticated security measures right off the shelf, but why stop there? Add optional security measures to your account to further enhance the security of your funds.
Adding, removing, or changing these additional security measures is locked behind the default security measures.
Authenticator App
An Authenticator App generates a time-based code that changes every 30 seconds. This provides an extra layer of security on top of your password or PIN, known as two-factor authentication (2FA). It is highly secure because even if your password is compromised, your account cannot be accessed without the unique code from your Authenticator App
YubiKey
YubiKey is a physical security key that you insert into your device to authenticate your identity. It provides the highest level of security by requiring possession of a physical device, making unauthorized access nearly impossible. YubiKeys are resistant to phishing and other attacks, offering robust protection for your account.

Geofence
Geofencing is a powerful security tool which restricts the scheduling of transfers outside of the trusted location(s) you set, meaning if your device is ever spoofed or your Fort Knox account is accessed anywhere else in the world, Transfers must still be initiated in the location(s) you configure.
Time Restrictions
Take control of when your money moves. With Time Restrictions, you decide the exact days and hours withdrawals from your Fort Knox account are allowed. Outside those windows, all withdrawal attempts are automatically blocked.
