Fort Knox uses CLEAR® to verify your identity and protect your account from unauthorized access. If you're having trouble passing CLEAR® verification, here's how the process works and what to do if something goes wrong.
How CLEAR® Verification Works
When you first enroll in CLEAR® through Fort Knox, you'll be guided through a secure identity verification process:
- Scan a government-issued photo ID
Accepted forms of ID include:- State-issued ID card
- Driver’s license
- U.S. passport or passport card
- Take a selfie
Your facial scan will be used to link your photo to the verified ID.
Once completed, you have created your CLEAR® profile and will be used each time you access your Fort Knox account.
If you're already enrolled in CLEAR®
If you have an existing CLEAR account—for example, one created for airport security—you can link it to Fort Knox by entering the same phone number associated with that account. This allows you to bypass the document scan and selfie steps.
What Happens If You Fail Verification
CLEAR® allows up to three (3) verification attempts per calendar day (measured from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM).
If all three attempts fail, your CLEAR® account will be locked for 24 hours.
While CLEAR® is Locked
CLEAR® verification is required for several Fort Knox features, including:
- Logging into the Fort Knox app
- Scheduling or canceling transfers
- Changing security settings or personal information
If your CLEAR® account is locked, these actions will be unavailable until your access is restored. You will not be able to log in or make account changes during this time.
Tips for Successful Verification
- Use consistent, even lighting with no backlighting or glare
- Hold your phone steady and at eye level
- Remove hats, sunglasses, or anything covering your face
- Make sure your ID is valid, unexpired, and readable. It helps to place it on a dark, flat background, like a desk or table.
If you're still having trouble after multiple attempts, we recommend trying again the following day or reaching out to CLEAR® support for assistance.
